The April meeting of Broomhill Women’s Institute, was held at the home of Pat Dickson, on April 3, at 2:00 p.m.
The meeting opened with members repeating the Creed, in union.
Motto: “I don’t care how much a person says, if they only say it, in a few words.”
Roll Call – Exchange a small plate of Easter dainties. Six members were present.
Thought of the Day – Pat Dickson “There’s nothing that can help you understand your beliefs, more than trying to explain them to an inquisitive child.”
Many interesting topics were shared from the five-minute presentations from the five Education Committee convenors.
Country convenor reported sending a “Thinking of You” card, to an area resident.
Our “Port in a Storm” project items were brought by members, to this meeting. They will be taken to the M.W.I. annual meeting in Portage, and then taken to Winnipeg. We donated: sheet sets (2), towel sets, tea towels, face clothes, baking utensils, food packages and cash.
The Books of Remembrance on going project was discussed. There are 662 entries, in 5 books, dated from 1947 – 2018. All entries are on spread sheets. There is information still needed to complete eg: Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Date of Death etc. Each member will take a list and try to find this information. This as I stated above, is an on going project, no deadline.
Several of us plan to attend the convention of our now region, South-West “A”, to be held in Newdale, on April 16.
One of our members plan to attend the A.G.M. in Portage April 26 – 27.
Our flag has disintegrated with some of the strong winds we’ve had. Pat Dickson offered to look in to obtaining a new one.
Nelda Wilkinson, Family convenor, was on the program for this meeting. She displayed a variety of afghans and cover-ups, she has crocheted for family members, this winter. A very colourful display.
Lunch was supplied and served by Pat, a delicious colourful Easter dessert, ending, as usual, an enjoyable afternoon.
Our next meeting will be held on May 1, we will be back in the Community Centre.
