The Association of Manitoba Municipalities was in Reston a the RM of Pipestone Council Chambers on Monday, January 26 as part of the Western region tour to discuss priority issues for the AMM board, and to hear from the councils regarding issues facing the region….Dori Charles is the new Public Servant and RCMP Detachment Clerk for Reston…The morning of January 24th was -41˚C and riders and one support driver were anticipating a long cold ride to Brandon for Journey for Sight: Lloyd Hayward, Brad Henderson, Neil Halls, Darren Wray and George Milliken…Reston Elementary was invited to a curling clinic with Murray, Linda and April Jorgensen and Laurie Campion.

To start Reston’s weekend crime wave off a 1975 Plymouth Valiant was stolen from Gary Watt’s lot by the highway, or at least removed from the premises. The crime scene picked up dramatically last Saturday a thief/vandals broke into seven businesses and attempted to gain entry into three others…Don Leadbeater is the latest member of our community. He is replacing Russ Ellis at Reston’s Pool Elevator manager...Glenn and Nancy Elliott are pleased to announce the safe arrival of their first born, Justin Charles on January 9, 1989.

January 22nd at 2.$5 was when the New Year’s baby made its appearance in the Reston Community Hospital. A bonnie 5 lb. 12 ox girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Chunyk of Tilston. The baby’s name is Liana Paulette…Wayne and Barry Morrow, Murray Williamson and Keith Williamson are again the zone curling champions.

Reston seniors made their debut a winning one by defeating Bellegarde 16 to 0 in the Reston Rink Thursday.

Twenty-six rinks took part in Tilston spiel last week. Les Grieves won the challenge, J.K. Bulloch of Reston, the Club; G.A. Bremner, the Pitt and also the Merchants; S. Robertson of Fertile won the Consolation.

All trophies remained at home, in the Reston bonspiel which was held last week. J.J. Bulloch won the Challenge, Wilson the Citizens, W.C. Bulloch the Recorder and Watt the Consolation.

Mr. Thomas Gifford of Winnipeg will be at the Prairie Rose School on February 11 to explain the system of Rural Credit...Owing to the non-arrival of films, the show in the Empire Theatre had to be cancelled on Tuesday night. The theatre will show “The Marionette” on Friday night.
