The Reston Rec Plex was pleased to host the 2018 Female Bantam Rural A/B Provincials on February 23, 24 and 25th. Congratulations to the Souris Elks who beat out the Grand Prairie Ice Dogs by a score of 6-5 for the gold medal. The puck dropped was between Rylee Mackenzie of the Souris Elks and Kenzie Blaine of the Brandon Wheat Kings…Reston School’s boys curling team travelled to Winkler to play in the Manitoba Highs School Athletic Association’s Provincial Curling Championship: Ethan Campbell, Kyle Campion, Wyatt Ramsey, Alex Kirkpatrick, Hunter Hiebert (spare) and Elana Wray (coach)…Congratulations to Brayden Gervin of Reston and Stephen Campbell of Brandon who went to Winnipeg over the weekend to participate in the Winter Games for the Special Olympics at St. John’s Ravencourt School  as part of the Wheat City Wings hockey team.

10 Yrs. – Mar. 7, 2009

The RM of Pipestone is pleased to introduce two new employees. Marcie Vickery of Brandon will be moving to Pipestone at the end of May when she graduates from Business Administration at ACC and Val Forsyth of Pipestone who will be working two days a week as a receptionist/clerk for the RM of Pipestone…Brayden Gervin was the recipient of the “YES I CAN” award for his outstanding achievement in athletics. The award was presented by the Minister of Education The Honourable Peter Bjornson in Winnipeg…First in the RES Curling Bonspiel was Leah Bartel, Nicole Martin, Dalton Cook and Brandon Adcock…Congratulations to Jasmine Hamel and Rachel Shurvell of the Reston Record Makers who won first place in the Virden Zone Communications and to Erickka Patmore and Jaimie Campion of the Pipestone 4-H Beef Club who placed second.

20 Yrs. – Mar. 9, 1999

March 1, a semi owned by Gilbert Lobreau who business is located in Pipestone burnt due to a block heater short. The semi was pulled out but there was extensive damage. The shed also had smoke damage…Sunday, February 21 the Reston Fire Department was called to a fire at the residence of Todd Sobry…On Friday February 25 at 9:40 pm., a 911 call was received in regards to a house fire. A kitchen fire at the residence of Gary and Barb Schiltroth was tended to. The Schiltroth family are safe, but unfortunately their house cat did not survive….Jean Elliott of Pipestone was the first prize winner of the  Country Fair Baking Contest.

30 Yrs. – Mar. 8, 1989

Manitoba Pool presented Art Smith with a 15-year member pin and Jim Forsyth with a 25-year pin…At the Sinclair Carnival Holly Gray was crowned Queen, 1st Prince was Brent Campbell and 2nd Prince was David Trush.

40 Yrs. – Mar. 8, 1979

Edison Berry cut the ribbon to officially open the new premises of Berry Farm Equipment Ltd…The Reston Hornet’s came out on top of the 2nd annual Broomhill tournament held in the Reston rink.

50 Yrs. – Mar. 6, 1969

Over twenty inches of snow was dumped in a storm which last 3 day. A cow was killed at the farm of Wilson Skelton north of here, when a shed collapsed from the weight of the snow.

60 Yrs. – Mar. 12, 1959

The Reston Rockets bowed out two straight games to the Pierson Bruins in the Southwest League playoff.

70 Yrs. – Mar. 10, 1949

Twenty five rinks took part in the Sinclair bonspiel last week.

80 Yrs. – Mar. 11, 1939

At a special meeting of the RM of Albert council on February 24th the following tax rate was struck: business assessment: general school 5 mills, good road debenture and interest 7.4 mills, non-residential school levy 0.1 mills and a general rate of 18.5 mills to provide for public works.
