Local author, blogger and teacher, Sharon Simms, offered an inspiring talk to a full house at the Reston & Disrtict Library Wednesday, February 28, 2018…March came in like a lion dumping heavy snow on Sunday, March 4 and Monday, March 5, for the first snow day of the year. Classes in Fort La Bosse were cancelled…Winners of the bonspiel were: Mary Wheeler, Glenda Pollock, Diane Elliott, and Judy Lochhead…Winnipeg-based Sol James was in Reston on Wednesday, February 21 at the Willow View PCH.

Reston Figure Skating Club sent six skaters to Skate Canada Manitoba Provincials in Carberry on March 7 and 8. Sylvianne Poirier (Antler, SK) 1st Semi-Finals and 1st Finals of Junior Bronze 11 and Over. Jeff and Tashia Way and big sister Shaleigh are thrilled to announce the birth of their baby girl, Kilynne Paige. Proud grandparents are Vern and Donna Cook of Reston and Larry and Gloria Way of Ninette.

20 Yrs. – Mar. 16, 1999

The Annual Sinclair Rink Carnival was held on March 5 with approximately 50 people in attendance…Grant Fotheringham is seeking the nomination for Arthur Virden…A benefit card night was held on March 12 to help Cynthia Hayward with medical expenses…Gladys Patmore of Pipestone received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba in October of 1988. Gladys has taken her degree by correspondence, taking one subject at a time over the past twelve years.

The Reston Re-opening of the RCMP Detachment was held March 6 in the Memorial Theatre Basement.

50 Yrs. – Mar. 13, 1969

Doug Wilson’s entry of an arc welder placed 1st in the general science section of the grades 7 – 9 class at the Western Manitoba Science Fair held at the Brandon University.

60 Yrs. – Mar. 19, 1959

Ebor Ladies donated $250 from monies raised by selling lunches at bonspiels to the men’s curling club for a new floor in the waiting room and repairs to the walls in the skating rink.

70 Yrs. – Mar. 17, 1949

Winners of the Fertile Bonspiel were: Challenge, Nelson Harvey; Citizens, T. Salute; Club, M. Holden and Consolation, C. Pickard.

80 Yrs. – Mar. 16, 1939

Mrs. Mainland, Matron of the Antler Hospital, had the misfortune to slip on ice ground and suffered a fracture in her left arm. Dr. Mather rendered medical assistance…Work is progressing rapidly on McMurchy’s Garage. The walls are sided up and the roof covered over.

90 Yrs. – Mar. 14, 1929

Reston implement dealers anticipate a change in farming methods, they have a total of 10 tractors on display…a spelling bee match was the feature of the meeting of the Hillview Young People on Thursday evening.

100 Yrs. – Mar. 6, 1919

C.C. Campbell speedily disposed of a car of feed oats that arrived here on Friday. The grain was an excellent sample.

110 Yrs. – Mar. 18, 1909

The mile race held in conjunction with the carnival at Sinclair on Friday night was won by John Finboysson. The double race, first event to Miss Finboysson and James Wood.
