It was a beautiful, sunny day on Friday, May 25, for the Reston Health Centre’s Hike for Hospice. Hotdogs and cake were served after a nice walk around town…Nellie Morris was the lucky winner of the door prize at the Reston Art Show. Members of the Reston Art Club include: Monica Campbell, Judy Lochhead, Donna Davis, Margie Irwin, Laurel Morris, Nancy Schiltroth, Bev Reid, Cathy House, Sylvia Halls, Amy White and Hazel Stonehouse…Ten students from Reston School participated in the Zone 9 Track & Field at the Sportsplex in Brandon. Brooke-lynn Rowand, Michaela Halls, Jasmine Hamel, Miranda Poirier, Mackenzie Poirier, Shenesa Poirier, Mark Mendoza, Mason Smith, Carlo Reyes and Ian Mendoza.

10 Yrs. – May 30, 2009

The Reston Rockets started their 2009 MSBL Season on Friday, May 22. After a 5th place finish in 2008, the Rockets hope to improve on the diamond this year. Boys of Summer: Rory Tycoles, Paul Thompson, Dez Koop, Dallas Williamson, Mitch Olsen, Ross Tycoles (coach), John Patmore (batboy), Clayton Jago, Buddy Mayert, Aaron Tycoles, Alexander McKinnon, Andrew Lochhead, Tyler Henderson. Brett Braybrook Jeff Katchmar, Ben Richardson, Eric Truscott and Ryan Bodell…Reston Art Club: Bev Reid, Donna Davis, Cathy House, Nancy Schiltroth, Irene Wiebe, Christine Henderson, Mary Milliken, Hazel Stonehouse, Joan Campbell, Neil Fehr, Becky Reid, Marion Brigden…Instructor Christian Clavelle with the help of Brian Jago will present Defibrillator Training Classes in Reston…Allison Greig is the new summer student at Seniors Helping Hand in Reston. A 42” flat screen TV and Wii Game was purchased along with a barbecue and a portable PA system from the “Age Friendly Initiatives” grant through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

20 Yrs. – June 1, 1999

A 911 call was dispatched at which sent the Reston Fire Department north of Reston to the farmyard owned by Jack Berry. The house was engulfed in flames upon arrived and was totally destroyed. Three injured people were taken to the Reston Hospital. Shaune Berry who was severely burnt, was air lifted to Winnipeg from Souris, unfortunately he later passed away due to the extent of his injuries. Jack Berry and Amelia More were taken to Brandon by ambulance and then forwarded to Winnipeg…Coming soon to Reston, Nearly New, articles on consignment at Reston Dry Cleaners.

The Elizabeth Auxiliary celebrated their 50th anniversary with a tea on Friday, May 26 at the Legion Hall.

40 Yrs. – May 31, 1979

The Reston Rockets have joined the Southwest Baseball League. Players: Ross Tycoles, Bob Bender, Robbie Johnston, Terry Mayert, Rob Forsyth, Steve Vandenberghe, Les Iles, Arnold Walker, Brent Cook, Ken Moore, Bill Bunka and Glenn Forsyth.

50 Yrs. – May 29, 1969

June 2 is the official opening of Frank and Tony Gay’s brand new store, situated on No.2 highway east of Pipestone.

60 Yrs. – June 4, 1959

The Reston High School Drama Club’s play “The Cat and the Cream” was judged the best junior play at the Manitoba Drama Festival held in Virden last week.

70 Yrs. – June 2, 1949

Over three inches of welcome rain fell in the district the first of the week, and at press time the weather was unsettled.

80 Yrs. – June 1, 1939

A crowd estimated from 5,000 to 15,000 were disappointed at Elkhorn on May 25 when only the King made a brief appearance when the Royal Train stopped there.

Mr. George Milliken of Hillview District has purchased a Titan gas tractor which is able to draw three 14 inch plows…Miss Lillie Baldwin was operated on at her home by Dr. Bigelow of Brandon.
