Although there was some snow this year, there wasn’t enough for a safe ride from Sinclair to Brandon. Alan Jackson drove the truck to the destination points. Starting with Irwin Automotive, he received donations from Irwin Auto, Sinclair and Area Lions and individuals. His next stop was Pipestone where donations were received from Turnbull Sales and Service. Pipestone Lions Club and Pipestone Guild….Tilston Beef 4-H Club held their Communication Night on Sunday, January 20.

10 Yrs. – Jan. 27, 2010

On January 13, 2010 Canupawakpa Dakota Nation held a general election for a new chief and council: Brendan Eastman (councillor), Gabriel Sutherland (councillor), Viola Eastman (councillor), Gerald Sand (councillor) and Frank Brown (chief)…A Side winners of the Reston Senior Curling Bonspiel were: Bob Froese, Bill Humes, Penny Edwards and Barrington Berry…The former Reston resident was chosen as one of the carriers of the Olympic Torch as it made its way through Brandon on January 8th, 2010…Five members of the Reston Figure Skating Club attended the North/South Westman Regional StarSkate Championships in Neepawa. Each member secured a spot at Provincials in Selkirk: Leah Bartel, Mallory Fotheringham, Casey Bertholet, Amber Caldwell and Keeley Bartel…There was a unique end at the Reston Rec Plex during Monday night’s curling when all sixteen rocks were in play between the Adams and Campions rinks…Five Westman women share the love of music through their musical ensemble called Young at Heart: Janet Yochim, Tony Schneider, Eileen Hatfield, Michelle Gervin and Carla Richard.

The RM of Pipestone and the Town of Reston held a Public Information Meeting regarding the expansion of Natural Gas to Reston.

30 Yrs. – Jan. 24, 1990

The 13 and under MAHA Playoffs started with the Reston team travelling to Pierson for the 1st game which they won 4-1. Scoring were: Jason MacKenzie, 3 goals; Jason Splett, 1 goal and 1 assist; Craig Berry, 1 assist and Jeremy Morrison, 1 assist.

40 Yrs. – Jan. 24, 1980

Ken Zelmer and his crew of Graham Mackenzie, Keith Boulton and Ken Zarn came out on top of the 16 rink Texaco bonspiel…Last week saw the opening of the Pipestone Curling Rink. It was decided to have Monday afternoon curling as well as Wednesday night curling.

50 Yrs. – Jan. 29, 1970

An operating deficit of $2,836 for 1969 was reported by J.D. Donald, Aministrator of the Reston Community Hospital.

60 Yrs. – Jan. 28, 1960

Bob Berry’s Cromer rink skipped by Barrington Berry, with Bob Berry, Albert Berry and Bill Gray won the Aggregate at the Reston Bonspiel.

70 Yrs. – Jan. 26, 1950

Mrs. W.A. Reid was elected trustee of the Belses School District.

80 Yrs – Jan. 25, 1940

At the RM of Albert council on January 4, A.W. Vincent was appointed Secretary Treasurer and Mrs. M Forsyth, assistant. H.E. Milner was reappointed as assessor.

90 Yrs. – Jan. 30, 1930

A Burns Night Concert was held in Belses School. Taking part were: Miss R. Robertson, J.H. Elliott, Mrs. Jas. Dodds, A. Speight, F. Elliott, John Forke, Mrs. R. Dodds, Mrs. H. Hopkins, Cyril Adams, T. Adams, Mrs R. Dodds.
