Local Entrepreneurs, Sheila and Bryce Campbell officially became owners this month of the historical Lutsen Resort nestled on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Something the mother and son business partners have always dreamt of.
Lusten Resort is Minnesota’s oldest resort dating back to 1885. Originally from Sweden founder, Charles Axel Nelson, immigrated to the North Shore and fell in love with the beautiful views, which lead him to established his homestead naming it “Lutsen”. Nelson later married and had children and the family lived off the land, taking advantage of the abundance of fishing, hunting and logging the area had to offer. Travellers would stay with the family amongst their journeys and soon the families welcoming reputations grew and that’s how Lusten Resort began.
The Lutsen Lodge looks over the lake with its deep red exterior standing out against the beautiful wilderness. The classic Scandinavian style gives a very comforting and warm feeling with stone fireplaces where you can curl up and admire the view. Lusten Resort offers two unique dining experiences. Lakeside Dining Room located in the Historic lodge and Poplar River Pub. Along with the lodge are four other accommodations including Cliff House Townhomes, Log Cabins, Poplar River Condos and Sea Villas.
Resort activities include 9-hole pitch and put golf, Campfires, Guided hikes, Swimming pools, Waterfall tours, WatersMeet Spa, Sea Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle, Kids Camp, Yoga, cross Country Skiing, Snow Hiking and more. And if that doesn’t seem to be enough Cook County offers an assortment of other attractions such as Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding, Shopping, Sled Dog Rides, Biking, Canoeing, the list goes on.
We asked Bryce if they have plans to make any changes to the Lodge, he responded “We’re going to make the lodge a luxury boutique lodge in years to come and build a Nordic spa up there to tie into the Scandinavian theme of the resort.” Just a little more to look forward to.
Sheila and Bryce encourage locals of Reston and area to make the drive out and see why they fell in love with Lusten Resort and the North Shore of Lake Superior.
