Launched in 2005 by The Coalition for Music Education, Music Monday is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous nationwide concert performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist. The Music Monday anthem serves as a rally cry for the importance of music in our schools and in our lives. A strong and important song from Canada’s musical history, “Hymn To Freedom” with music by Oscar Peterson and lyrics by Harriette Hamilton, is the 2019 Music Monday anthem. On Monday, May 6th, 2019, hundreds of thousands of participants joined together to sing and play the anthem across the country in schools, public parks, and communities to celebrate the galvanizing power of music.
