Reston & Area Foundation – Your gift is the gift that keeps on giving!

The Reston and Area Foundation (RAF) is once again calling for grant applications for 2019 with their February 28 deadline coming quickly.  Many community members are aware of the Foundation, but others may not understand exactly how the Foundation operates.

The Foundation’s mission is to "strengthen and advance the quality of life in our communities…”  Each donation, large and small, is important to the Foundation. Since its inception, funds have been received through bequeaths, memorials, and donations. We are a registered charity and tax deductible receipts are issued.  In 2019, we will be on the United Appeal annual fall canvas, so keep us in mind.

The Reston and Area Foundation received charitable status late in 2004. Over the past 14 years we have grown to funds currently in excess of $780,000. Scholarships awarded since 2015 total $19,485.50. Grants awarded to local organizations over the past 10 years total just under $165,000.

The capitol is never touched and portions are invested through the Winnipeg Foundation and locally through Sunrise Credit Union.  Grant Awards are a result of the interest accrued and generally handed out in April.  In 2018, we were pleased to hand out $20,500.  The RAF also manages local Scholarships that are awarded in June.
