With the federal election just one month away, you’d expect candidates from all the parties, especially the major ones, to be busy reaching out to voters, given the limited time available.
But in Brandon-Souris, as of press deadline, neither the Liberals nor the NDP had nominated a candidate to run in the riding.
Conservative incumbent Larry Maguire wants to retain his seat in the House of Commons, which he acquired in a by-election six years ago.
The slate of candidates so far in Brandon-Souris is:
Conservative: Larry Maguire, Brandon
Green Party: Bill Tiessen, Crystal City
Christian Heritage Party: Rebecca Hein, Crystal City
People’s Party of Canada: Rob Lussier, Brandon
Prospective candidates have until Sept. 30 to submit their nominations. On October 2, Elections Canada will reveal the final list of official candidates.
Advance voting is available for four days over the Thanksgiving long weekend, Oct. 11 to 14.
Election day is Monday, Oct. 21.
The Reston Recorder will follow the campaign and the candidates with a particular focus on the race in Brandon-Souris. On Oct. 11, watch for a special edition of the newspaper that will contain profiles of all candidates in our riding.
