Remember Mom

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13th. In last week’s paper, advertisements were placed by Ikay Gardens, opening May 1, and Stoney Creek Greenhouse opening May 7. Treat Mom to something special.

Vegas Baby

I have something else to cross off my bucket list. These girls I went to high school with and I travelled to Las Vegas this past weekend to see the bright lights. We stayed on the Vegas Strip, travelled through the glamorous hotels of the rich and famous, watched lots of street performers, rode on the High Roller, travelled to the Stratosphere, visited TV’s Pawn Stars location (no they didn’t ask us to be included in an upcoming episodes) and walked miles and miles in warm, warm weather. We laughed till we cried and then laughed some more. These girls are very special to me and I look forward to many more adventures together. We call ourselves the Mean Girls.

A lot of things have changed

I used to think children belonged in bed by 7...but that was before I realized that children need to be played with and loved.

I used to think wise adults saved their money, but that’s before I purchased 5 kisses for a dollar.

I used to think children’s feet belonged on the floor – but that’s before I realized that to give a kiss to a child, sometimes they need to climb on the white sofa.

I used to think an upset stomach could be ignored – but that’s before I realized that a trip to the doctor alleviates unnecessary fears.

I used to think school programs were a bore, that’s before I realized the great talent that some children harbour.

I used to think children should never miss a day of school, that was before I realized that a short winter vacation to a warm climate never stifled anyone’s learning processes.

I used to think that allowances were wrong, but that’s before I realized that rewards can be a great incentive.

I used to think that eating cookies in the afternoon ruined a child’s dinner, but that was before I figured out one ruined meal wouldn’t throw a child into malnutrition.

I used to think that I couldn’t possibly have any more room in my heart, then I found out I was going to be a grandma.

Just for Laughs

After 50 years of wondering why he didn’t look like his younger sister or brother, a man finally got up the nerve to ask his mother if he was adopted. “Yes, you were son,” his mother said as he started to cry softly, “…but it didn’t work out and they brought you back.”
