Team Marnoch placed first at Westman Regionals held in Souris January 6 - 8. The win advances them to Provincials in Portage La Prairie, February 7 -12.
Team Marnoch consists of skip Kelly Marnoch - he calls the game and throws third while Bart Witherspoon throws the skip’s rocks. Branden Jorgensen throws second and lead is Chris Cameron.
“Kelly, Chris and I have been curling with each other for five years and this will be the third year with Bart,” explained Jorgensen. “We played in the Super League in Brandon every Wednesday night, where we finished third after round robin play. Playoffs start at the end of the month to determine the champion.”
Team Marnoch has curled in bonspiels around Manitoba and Saskatchewan this year.
“We have upcoming events like the Brandon’s Men’s and the MCA Spiel in Winnipeg to look forward to,” said Jorgensen. “These will have great competition and will be a perfect way to lead up to Provincials.”
Kelly Marnoch is a 35-year-old insurance broker with HMS/Guild Insurance from Carberry. He is married and has a baby boy. This is his seventh appearance at Provincials.
Bart Witherspoon is 39-years-old and works at McCain Foods as a Senior Field Rep. Bart just got engaged and this is his fifth trip to Provincials.
Branden Jorgensen is a farmer at Ebor (Cromer). He is 27-years-old and recently married this past summer. This is his fourth time at Men’s Provincials.
Chris Cameron is 37-years-old and a part owner of Smart Electric and lives in Carberry. He is married and has a baby girl. This is his sixth time to Provincials.
“It’s nice that Provincials are closer to home being in Portage this year,” said Jorgensen. “We’re hoping we can improve or match what we accomplished a couple of years ago in Brandon, where we made the final eight. I’m also hoping we have some fans come out and watch being that we’re so close to the rest of the team’s hometown of Carberry.”
Cheering Team Marnoch on from home is Branden’s wife Kailey, his parents, Murray and Linda Jorgensen, and his sister April and Sean McKean, all of Cromer; Branden’s grandmother, Marie Jorgensen and Elwyn McConnell of Reston and grandparents Albert and Albine Martin of Redvers, SK; plus lots of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Good luck Team Marnoch!
